The first few days

Day 1 was spent in a Year 3 class. It was good to start placement, the children were intrigued as to who I was and where I came from. That was cleared soon enough and so I was accepted, and joined in with the day's activities. I was amazed at what they had to eat for 'Frühstücks Pause' (mid morning snack), - nice sandwiches, yoghurts etc. much healthier than in England!!!
Day 2 I spent with the Year 1 class - a 'Sprachheilklasse' (Speech and Language Unit). The children's speech is fortunately not too hard to understand! By the end of the day I knew 10 out of the 11 names!!
I have just completed Day 3. Again I was in the Year 1 class, this time the class teacher was there ( he was away due to the floods affecting his house). It was nice to see how happy the children were to have him back, he is a typical older German Gentleman - in dress style, as well as being friendly and helpful. It is very interesting to see his teaching style, and his approach to helping children with speech and language difficulties. So much speech is encouraged in the classroom, even if mispronounced it is accepted so that confidence is built up in the children.
Time's flying by fast, I've got to get some info for college too before this placement ends....

Arrived!

Well I've arrived! Not too much hassle getting to Lüneburg from Lübeck, and Sara met me at the train station. My German is coming back fast enough, I reckon I'm ready for tomorrow!
I've got to be at the school at 7:45!!! Poor Sara is coming with me to introduce me. Oh well such is the hardship of looking after friends...
Listening to the radio and watching TV is slightly confusing when they keep putting in some English words! As is typing on this keyboard - where is the y?! and I don't have to type 'ue' but can use ü!
I'll type again soon,

Intro

I'm studying a BA Honours in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status with a specialism in Special Educational Needs at Canterbury Christ Church University College in Kent, England. I am starting my third year in September. I arranged this placement with the help of Sara, and Lüneburg University. I am doing this placement during my holidays, hoping to polish my German and to gather information for an assignment. I'm looking forward to getting to know the German school system a bit better, it'll most likely be a challenge as I'm going to work in a Sprachheilklasse (Speech and Language Unit)!
